Respected priests, sisters and brothers, it is with deep sorrow we inform you of the passing away of our beloved Reverend Fr. Joy Sasthampurackal, on Thursday (20.06.2023) at 05.24 in the morning. He has been serving as the Associate-vicar at Jeeva Matha Church, Mattancherry, since February 2023.
He was born on 16th August, 1954 to late Sasthampurackal Joseph and Mary, in Kumbalanghi. In 1971 he joined in Mount Carmel Petit Seminary, Fortcochin and began his priestly formation. He then completed his philosophical and theological studies at St. Joseph's Seminary, Aluva. On 22 December 1980, he was ordained priest by the Bishop Joseph Kureethara.
He has served as Procurator of the Diocese, Member of Diocesan Advisory Committee, Member of Diocesan Construction Committee and Director of Diocesan Mass Media Institute.
He started his priestly ministry as an assistant parish priest at St. Sebastian's Church, Chellanam and also became vicar in the same parish. Served as Finance Administrator and Vicar at St. Antony's Church, Kannamali, the famous Christian pilgrimage centre in Kerala.
He also served as vicar in the parishes of Santa Cruz Church, Perumpadappu, St. Augustine's Church, Aroor, St. Martin De Porres Church, Kallancherry, St. Lawrence Church, Edakochi, St. Francis Assisi Church, Kattipparambu, St. Joseph's Church, Chirakkal and Stella Mary's Church, Wellington Island.
The Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Church, North Kumbalangi. His friends and classmates, Rev. Bishop Sebastian Thekkathecherry of Vijayapuram Diocese and Rev. Bishop George Madathikandathil of Kothamangalam Diocese, will be attending in the funeral services.
