Bishop Joseph Kariyil, joined by all the priests of the Diocese of Cochin gathered at the Santa Cruz Basilica Cathedral, Fortcochin to celebrate the Chrism Mass. This Mass manifests the unity of the priests with their bishop. The Chrism Mass only happens once a year – the Tuesday of Holy Week, and only at the Cathedral. The bishop blessed three oils — the oil of catechumens (oleum catechumenorum oroleum sanctorum), the oil of the infirm (oleum infirmorum) and holy chrism (sacrum chrisma), which will be used throughout the year in the different parishes of the diocese to baptize, confirm and anoint the sick.
