Aroor parishioners were blessed with a new Parish Church

The Parishioners of St. Augustine's Church, Aroor had witnessed the laying of the foundation stone for the new Church on 28th August,  2010. After 11 long years of patient and prayerful waiting, the parishioners  witnessed the Blessing Ceremony of their new Church on Sunday, 12th December, 2021 at 3.30 p.m by His Excellency, Rt. Rev. Dr.Joseph Kariyil,Bishop of Cochin.

Since the erection of the Diocese of Cochin in 1557, St. Augustine's Church, which was then  a little thatched Shrine ( 1837) ,was under the jurisdiction of St. Lawrence's Church, Edakochi. Later in 1877 with the collective effort of the faithful, an elegant Church was constructed in its place. In 1910, the then Bishop His Excellency,Rt. Rev. Dr. Jose Benro Martin Rebeiro announced St. Augustine's Church independent. The statistical data had shown
a considerable growth over the years. Hence the idea of constructing a new Church for the benefit of the faithful, took roots in the minds of its parishioners. The Grace of the Almighty and the untiring effort of the faithful has resulted towards the completion of this new church. It was a dream come true for all the parishioners.

Facing the National highway,  it stands aloft  with its Byzantine and Gothic styles. Various Biblical events pictured on the stained glass of the windows, portray the depth of faith thus highlighting its artistic excellence. The Crucifix with Our Lady and St.John at its foot which is placed at the centre of the altar is awe inspiring.

The Blessing Ceremony of the newly built Church took place in the presence of a selected few public officials and the faithful abiding by the Covid protocol. All the faithful  could view the same via Cochin Channel, Radio Maria and also from the YouTube channel of St. Augustine's Church.
