Bishop John thattumkal had his primary education at Changaram L.P. School, Ezhupunna and had his High School Education at T.D. School Thuravoor and St. Francis Assisi High School, Arthungal. In 1966 he joined Mount Carmel Petti Minor Seminary at Fort Cochin. After Minor Seminary formation he was sent to Propaganda College, Rome, where he completed his seminary studies and obtained Master’s Degree in Philisophy and Bachelos Degree in Theology and was ordained priest by Bishop Alexander Edezhath of Cochin Diocese on 3rd August, 1974. He was sent to Rome again for higher studies and he had his Doctorate in Canon Law and Civil Law in 1979.
